Making money out of Photobooks

I have just been shown a photobook which a property developer has used for showing of a new house build from start to finish. They give one these to the the purchaser of the house along with a bottle of champagne and they are really gratefully received. He does his with photographs that he takes himself which he admits are not perfect but he felt that a professional photographer might be too expensive.

This strikes me as a real opportunity as to just pop in and take photographs over a period of months is a great way for you guys to earn extra money, no time commitment of half a day and great books available on photogether to sell to the developer.

There are also great opportunities to create demand in other areas to fill in gaps between weddings and portraits and where timing is not so important so it can be fitted in when you have time. Examples could be the local football or cricket team over a season taken reportage (or any sport), a year in the life of a school (can also be sold in with their requirement for good non posed photos for prospectuses etc.), corporate portfolios and pets just as a few examples. Let me know other ideas you have.

Overall photobooks because they are not necessarily seen as a the professionals choice can be used for many items that you may otherwise not consider – even for a wedding it would be possible to add in some photos that the bride and groom like that you may not have taken from the hen and stag night. These will reproduce well enough using Indigo printers and will help increase the story and improve the ownership feel that the bride always likes to have. Sell these as add-ons to your standard albums and because your including their prints they are going to be less concerned about price and even if they decide not to put any of theirs in you will have them nearer a sale for the books anyway.
